| New Orleans | safe walking / Warehouse district Posted: Wed February 13, 2008 12:40 AM UTC
I will be staying in the Warehouse district (Embassy Suites, 300 block of Julia St.) in late March. I am traveling alone and wonder whether the surrounding blocks will be safe for walking: to/from Bourbon St, to/from nearby Harrah's casino in particular. I am aware of the general cautions about walking beyond Bourbon St at night, but am asking more specifically about my hotel and surrounding blocks.
Thanks so much for any help. |

The area that you would be walking is kind of "dead". It would be dark late at night (I mean, there are not many street lights and the businesses are closed) and not necessarily unsafe, but stuff happens. There used to be some sketchy characters that would hang around the area outside the casino, lurking on tourists. If you are going to be walking it alone, at night, you might be better off getting a cab. It wouldnt be very expensive and it would certainly give you piece of mind.
The city is trying really hard to shake off its dangerous reputation, but stuff happens anywhere.
