| Troms Region | Skjervøy Posted: Tue February 12, 2008 03:04 PM UTC
My first trip to Norway, am traveling alone, older lady. I want to see the place my mother was born (Kagen, Troms) and my fathers family place in Borge Lofoten. Also to see as much of Norway as I can along the journey. If I take a port-port Hurtigruten from Bergen to Skjervøy, the boat arrives in Skjervøy late, about 10:30-11:00 PM. Can I still check into a hotel at that late hour?

If you book ahead and let the hotel know that you'll be arriving late (on Hurtigruten), then it shouldn't be a problem at all. :o)

Most communities along the coast connected to Hurtigruten are tuned into its departure and arrival hours, thus it should be expeciting visitors at late hrs. Try by e-mail or fax to confirm, though.... Norway is a fairly sloppy country, so better confirm so you can state your rights. I used to live in a place that had Hurtigruten arriving at 5ish am and the walk down to the harbour to see the ship docking marked the end of the night`s party. 11 pm is nothing in the north, especially during the time of midnight sun.
Enjoy your trip! Saagar
