| Brest | Visit to Brest via WAW Posted: Tue February 12, 2008 01:37 PM UTC
My grandfather came to the US via Brest around circa 1915. He finally settled
in Cleveland, Ohio. The ethnic background of our name is Ukrainian. My wife, daughter (who is fluent in Russian), and I are planning a trip to Brest to check the archives there regarding emigrants from that area. I need advise on how to get there from WAW, also I need a sponsor or hotel to "invite" us there, and any further info that may help us with the search. We do have copies of documents from that time period. Please advise as we are planning our trip for May, 2008. Thank you greg krivchenia |

The price of the train ticket between Warszawa and Brest is a mighty 19.70 Euro one-way. For round-trip there will be 40% discount. It's 212 km in Poland and 5 km in Belarus, so I wouldn't consider it even "cheap". Cheap for locals would be 10 Euro r/t.
American citizens will need "visa support document". The list of tourist companies who provide it for Americans is here: http://www.belarusembassy.org/consular/eng/travelagencies.htm Usually such support documents are merely visa fee inflation by $20-$30 and are trouble-free.
