My Son (21) and his friend will be arriving in Toronto late March '08. As a Mum I am really concerned as to where they will stay and where they will be able to find work. My Son is a Personnel Trainer here in Australia, unsure if there is a demand for such in Toronto, alternatively he will have to find some other form of work. In addition, where are they likely to find a home with home like facilities, laundry, kitchen etc. They plan to be in Toronto for 6 months, would appreciate any suggestions from all. Hope to hear from you and thankyou. Regards. Thelma

A few questions: Does your son know how much in rent he wants to pay? Furnished I presume. What type of 'other' work is he looking for?
Toronto is quite like Melbourne - a large city spread out over a vast area. It has desirable and undesirable neighbourhoods but for the most part is a safe city. It has a lively and lived-in downtown core, unlike the 'doughnut' syndrome of many large U.S. cities. Personal Trainers are common here. I would suggest googling gyms in the area and sending resumes direct to them. He can try looking on www.workopolis.ca or www.monsterjobs.ca for that type of work and other employment. As for accommodation, he can look at www.viewit.ca or www.rentersnews.ca or www.rentingtoronto.com or relocatecanada.com/toronto/rentals.html and this is that site's short-term (weekly rates) page: http://relocatecanada.com/tempaccomodation/toaccommodation.html This place (just a quick look done for you) has weekly rates that he could try whilst he looks for a more permanent place to stay and gets the feel of the city: http://www.castlegateinn.com/rates-location.html If he needs a contact or would like to ask direct questions, I'd be more than happy to help ... just drop me a line.

Hi,
I am from Canada, and I lived in Toronto while I was in university. Toronto is booming right now so he shouldn't have any problems finding a job or a place to stay. I'm not sure if he will be able to get a job in his field though, since I haven't ever really looked into that. If you are really concerned our government has a universal job bank that you can search. Here's the link http://jobbank.gc.ca/Search_en.aspx?ProvId=06&Student=No. As for housing, we have a central listing service for the country mls.ca where you can look for a place to rent or even just get an idea of the pricing. Don't worry too much about him coming to Canada, we are very nice. You might want to worry about all the girls throwing themselves at him with an Austrailian accent though. ;o) Well I hope this has helped, Nikki

If there are any concerns about weather in Toronto in late March, early April here's a link for average historical temperatures
http://www.worldweather.org/056/c00264.htm It is a transitional weather period and can be unpredictable, so you're son should try to be prepared for any type of weather. Any extreme weather clothing, if that does occur, can always be obtained here (easier than carrying possibly unnecessary heavy clothing).

As for gyms, he should look at the chains called "Goodlife" and "Extreme Fitness". They both have many locations in Toronto, and have Personal Trainers. My gym (Goodlife) has a couple of Aussie trainers at my location alone.
