| Honolulu | Hike to an Oahu waterfall and pool Posted: Mon February 11, 2008 10:24 PM UTC
We are going to Oahu in March, and would like a nice hike to a waterfall and pool. Any suggestions would be great, and if you have directions that would be super great.

There are not many waterfalls on Oahu. There are a few though, but one you cannot go to anymore, the Sacred Falls, due to a tragic rock fall. The best of the rest is Manoa Falls, Waimea Falls, and Maunawili Falls. See the website for directions, pictures, and information on the site. http://www.hawaiiweb.com/oahu/sites_to_see/waterfalls.htm

My wife and I went to oahu last year and are going back in April. We visited 3 waterfalls but i can only remember Manoa Falls and Waimea Falls. Both were great hikes. We absolutely loved the hike to the Waimea falls and couldnt say enough about it. We learned about it and got directions from a Oahu website we constantly used while we were there (see http://www.sharinghawaii.com/oahu/water/waterfalls-oahu.html). You can also swim at the base of the Waimea falls which i think is great.

Check before you go to make sure the falls have reopened. The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has taken over Waimea Valley as of Feb. 1 2008 and has shut it down for a while.

If you have not traveled yet i could certainly help you with finding some waterfalls. I saw at least 5 while i was there and i know of 2 that would be perfect for swimming. Muanawili falls and the Jackass Ginger Pool. I have made a tip for Muanawili falls with directions i'm still working on my other pages. I just got back a week ago.
