What is the best and safest way of travelling from Pretoria to Johannesburg please. All the travel books say do not take the Metro as it is too dangerous so what does that leave us with? Taxi,bus??? We will have a car in Pretoria and we were going to drop it back there but we will be staying near the airport in Johannesburg so would it be just as easy to drive it there and drop it off. Many thanks.

I would definitely drop the car off in JoBurg. It would be safer and much, much more convenient.

Driving from Pretoria to Johannesburg airport is easy and safe.

The Airport is between JHB and PTA so rather use the car. The highway is in good shape and the road signs are quite clear. Remember Jan Smuts, Johannesburg Int and Oliver Thambo are all the same airport.

haha Annette, how true is that! Gets quite confusing, all the airport name changes. Pity ALL the motorway signs haven't been upgraded yet...

It changed so quickly. Most of the Jan Smuts signs have been replaced but there are still some on a few of the East Rand roads. I saw another one the other day in Boksburg again. We all know the big drama around the airport's name but I doubt if very many tourist would know that. Must be confusing to them.
