| Dublin | DUB Airport from town Posted: Mon February 11, 2008 06:57 PM UTC
I have a 7 hour layover in Dublin and I was hoping to explore Dublin a little bit in that time. How far is the airport from the town? Since I will have my luggage with me and I can't check into my flight that many hours in advance(I'm flying Ryanair our of DUB) I was wondering if there are lockers at the airport where I can leave my luggage. Or, is there a train station close, since I believe most of those do have lockers. Any advice is welcome.
Thank you for your help! |

I was in Dublin airport last September and October. There is a luggage storage room with attendant across the alley from the ground floor level in another building. Just after you cross that alley and go inside, it is on the left. It is a small "Dutch" door (Split door) They charged about 5 Euros for one suitcase for the day. (Ask nicely and he might even do it for less) I had a small case and he did it for 4 Euro. but be careful about how far you go from the Airport as traffic can back up in the afternoon. If you check in late with Ryanair, they will not let you board and you lose your ticket. If you wish to write me at my VTmail address, I can tell you more about that airport. I will be going thru there again in late March and returning in early April. .....Jon

Well Helen, the distance isn't the problem, it's the time of day that you'll be traveling that'll cause problems. The traffic can be disastrous at certain times of the day (merely very bad the rest of the time:) ).
What time are you landing and leaving and with what airline?

One afternoon it took us almost an hour to get from the airport to central Dublin by taxi and it seemed like the taxi driver was doing all he could to find the quickest route.. Apparently there was some football championship going on and the highway was muck, worse the the So Bay curve. Going back it took about 1/2 an hour by taxi. The bus pick up is just outside the exit, but I could not tell you how long it takes to get into town via bus.

You may want to take a look at these websites re transportation back and forth to the City Centre.

It can be done Helen but it's risky as the traffic can be dreadful. Bus should take around 30 minutes to get to the city centre if the traffic's OK. All goig well you could spend three hours maybe which would be time to have a walk round the city centre, Stephen's Green, Trinity College, Grafton Street etc.
But allow yourself loads of time to get back and remember the Ryan Air terminal is about a 20 minute walk from the checkin desk. If you decide it's too risky, another option could be to take a taxi to Malahide which is a pleasant seaside town not too far from the airport. You could do some shopping here, walk on the beach and get a small flavour of Dublin.

Hello Helen :)
That is plenty of time to see some of Dublin. The airport is small and it takes less than an hour to get into the city depending on traffic. The fastest way is to take a taxi but certainly not necessary. If u take one ask the driver to drop u at O'Connell Bridge. That is about as central as u can get. More economical options are the airport bus or the green city busses. The airport bus costs around 6 Euros(I think. Not sure because I always take the city buses). The city buses cost around 1.90 Euros. Be sure to get one that goes to O'Connell Street. For this bus u will have to have exact change. Both types of bus are close to the exit from the airport building. Mel
