New Orleans whats REALLY happening in new orleans?
Posted: Sun February 10, 2008 10:47 PM UTC
is April a good time to visit (weather wise) ? i havent been to new orleans in two years (WAY too long!!!) and a friend of mine and i are planning to visit in April...is this a good time of year to visit? if i can get some info on how the fabourg marigny is doing, i'd appreciate it 'cause this was one o my fave places to hang out on thurs-sunday nights...i've been back to new orleans after Katrina, for jazz fest, but dont necessarily have to go during jazz fest now...i just want to go to places that are up and running well...last time i was there, so many places werent in order (like some museums and such)...

i know there are plenty of websites that i can look into, but i want to hear from locals or people who've spent some serious time there lately (not organizations that will promise you THEIR place is the best)

thanks in advance for any replies VTers!!

I'm not sure exactly what you have in mind to visit, but as I recall during our trip just after Katrina, most tourist stuff--the French Quarter, for example--were already up and running. I'm certain that the city is making out and that in fact, the food likely comes at a relative bargain because the tourism industry still thinks the city is closed.

April is a lovely time to visit. I was in NOLA twice last year - Easter and October. As I recall, April is crawfish season. While most businesses aren't open as many hours, there's still a lot to keep you drinking, eating and dancing.
