Rio de Janeiro Excursion to Iguazù
Posted: Sun February 10, 2008 07:02 PM UTC
I will be in Rio in middle of next March and I would get an excursion to the Iguazù falls: are there in Rio travel agencies that organize these excursions? How does it cost a 2 days excursion? Do someone have other suggestions?

Thanks
Paolo

Yes there are agents that can arrange a tour to the falls, the prices vary depending on the quality of the hotel and type of transportation to the falls, ie bus or air. Or you can book your own, GOL normally offers the least expensive tickets to Foz do Iguaçu, their web site is http://www.voegol.com.br/INT/

As for hotels the Hotel das Cataratas is the best hotel and is located inside the park. It is rather expensive. Trip Advisor offers some good information on hotels, this link might help you

Hope this helps

I just noticed your other post that you will also be in Sao Paulo, you will be closer to the Falls there and would make more sense to visit from SP than from Rio. The flights would be much less and if you take the bus it would be much less time than from Rio.

Hi Sam,
In fact I'll arrive in Sao Paulo in the evening, and I would start immediately the morning after directed to Rio by bus, stopping for 1 or 2 days in Parati and, maybe, Angra dos Reis. My intention is to visit the falls starting from Rio, then coming back to Sao Paulo for the return flight...
Do you suggest me a different itinerary?
tahnks

Hi! The flights from Rio to Iguazu are more or less via Sao Paulo...
The falls can be visited in one day, both sides (a taxi can make it for you if you rent it for the day, it was last year 250 BR) and he can stop you before to cross the fontier for eating, help you for the customs(very fast) and then bring you to the argentinian side of the falls.
Of course we went to the bird park...
Look to my travel page...
The falls are surely one of the most impressive natural site I saw during all my trips...

No offense grovier but I cannot imagine doing both sides in one day, seems a bit crazy to me. I spent a full day on both sides and then another half day on the Argentine side. I was staying at the Sheraton so it made it very easy visiting the Argentine park. It appears that taking a remise from the Argentine side to the Brazilian side is much cheaper since I only paid $120 arg. for the full day (that is about $41USD) and that was for two of people.

As to your question about your routing, yes I would suggest you alter it if possible by going from Sao Paulo to Iguazu, then to Paraty and on to Rio and then return directly to Sao Paulo.

Suerte
Sam
