HI I understand that there is a direct bus from Maastricht to Tongeren, but wanted to know what number bus, what times they run, if they run early Sunday morning?

Do you want to go to Tongeren in the province of "Noord Brabant".

If yes, there's no direct bus connection as far as I can see.
All suggestions point to taking the train to Boxel and walk (half hour) from there.

I think you mean Tongeren across the border into Belgium.

That's a direct bus run by the Belgium De Lijn #62.

First departure at 08:42AM; arrival at Tongeren 09:27AM (station to station).

Thanks, yes I meant in Belgium. So it seems that if I wanted to get there at the beginning of the antique market on Sunday 6am ish, this is not possible via public transport?

No, start looking for a cheap B&B at Tongeren for a night.

Perhaps there are those VT'ers who would drive me there at an early hour. I would pay for your time and expense.

From what I can see, there are not that many hotel options in Tongeren. A youth hostel is not going to work for me, and the other hotel is a bit expensive.

A place to stay would be Hasselt. there is an early train from there. But
perhaps there are some towns closer but I have not been able to get a good handle on this.

Renting a car on my own is not going to work as I have never driven in Europe yet.

Perhaps someone can steer me to a close by Belgian town to TOngerene with hotels? Or perhaps someone who can drive me?

Taking the train from Maastricht does not help much on Sundays:

Pieter, thank you first of all for being so helpful ! One thing, you mentioned the bus earlier in the thread. Is there a web site where I can see this bus and schedule as I would want to come back to Maastricht on Sunday via this bus.

To be honest, it is great to be early at the market, but if you are there at 9:30-10:00 that should be fine. The market is big, but not *that* big, and it is usually open till about 1pm.

I read elsewhere that it is better to get there early. I wil have to consider this, in light that theere is a bus from Maastricht indeed at around 9am.
