| Damascus | DAMASCUS HOSTEL Posted: Sun February 10, 2008 07:38 AM UTC
Has anyone stayed at the "Damascus Hostel" - www.damascushostel.com - it looks like a very interesting choice...Have heard overall negative comments about AL Majib..am not picky at all (see my hotel/hostel picks!) - any ideas for staying in old Damascus houses - ahve not found any good sites/links and guidebooks are hopelessly out of date...

I have stayed both at Al-Haramein and Ar-Rabie. They are not within the walls in Old Town, but they are both situated in old houses not far from the old town. They are basic but nice places.

I stayed at Damascus Hostel last year. It was very safe, secure, clean. I liked the fact that it was right next to many interesting sites and there were loads of cheap cafes next door. You could use the kitchen and laundry if you wanted to and I found it easy just to walk around the neighbourhood. A bonus was that the staff spoke English and Arabic. I can't remember the price but it was not expensive. Hope this helps.
