Ohio Lake Erie Coastal Scenic Byway (Cleveland to Toledo)
Posted: Sat February 9, 2008 07:50 PM UTC
During the fist week of April my mom and I are going on a road trip. Towards the end of it we will be driving through Ohio. We will be coming from VA, North on HW 77. Driving up that until we hit Cleveland. Once we get to Cleveland or around the area we plan to stay in a hotel for the night. From here we plan to drive along Lake Erie. Here is where my questions come in to play... what are the must see places along Lake Erie from Cleveland to Toledo? Also is the best route to take the Lake Erie Coastal Scenic Byway?

We want to see some of the lake, beaches, lighthouses, outdoors type stuff. Mostly we are looking for things that won't cost money because we are on a tight budget(and that type of stuff really doesn't anyways). It will be a trip made in one day though! Any suggestions are very highly appreciated! Also, any really, really good places to eat along the way in there?? Either leave me on here or send me a message!

Thanks to anyone who will take the time to give me any ideas!

I don't have much time at the moment, but will try to post more ideas soon. Until then, I have brief mention on my Ohio page about Lake Erie lighthouses and Old Woman Creek - an estuary park with some hiking trails along the Coastal highway.

I'll post more later, including some Cleveland dining ideas.

Hi,
I grew up on Lake Erie in a great little town called Vermilion, which is halfway between Cleveland and Toledo. There is a nice beach and great lakes historical museum along with some nice little shops, i.e. Cargo Wharehouse. Nice place to eat is a place called "the old progue" on main street. Go along the lake from Vermilion to Toledo on Rt 6 until you get to Sandusky, before you get to RT 6 you'll find Margaritaville Restaurant, next to an water fall. Great mexican food, especially the seafood nachos! Then jump on Rt 2 to over Sandusky Bay, get off at Marblehead exit and go to see Marbelhead lighthouse at the coast guard station.

Unfortunately, most things fun and interesting to see along lake erie don't get going or open until May. Cedar Point amusement park, ranked no. 1 in the world, many rides and a beautiful beach. Been there for over 100 years. And my favorite, the lake erie islands, especially Put In Bay. You catch the ferry at Catawba which is not far from the Marblehead lighthouse. Fun place, wineries, famous bars, antique stores, caves, 350 ft tall Perry's monument. You ride around the island in golf carts!

Past this area I am not too familar, but have gone to the famous Tony Packo's Restaurant in Toledo, made famous by the TV show MASH, good food!

Safe Travel and believe me, you got to go there sometime in the Summer and boat on the lake, hit a few beaches, spend a day at Cedar Point and go to Put in Bay for a day or two and think you are in Key West or Mardigras!
