Is it advisable for a female U.S. citizen who will be working for a short time in Bahrain to wear a Burqa or other similar attire?

Hi,
You do not need to wear a Burqua and can wear your ordinary clothes, taking into account local sensitivies. Try to keep your shoulders covered (your arms will need to be covered if you go to a mosque) and wear long trousers / skirts. I have found that the best deterent to wearing revealing clothing are the constant stares from the men around. Have a good trip.

Just normal western business clothes are normal, just make sure it's not revealing (low cut, mini-skirt etc).

You will find it hard toi even obtain a Burqa outside of Afganistan. I think you want to look at a Hijab. They can be quite trendy and are easily available.

"the maximum you will get is a flirty look from the men" is definitely in the eye of the giver, not the receiver. Having been on the receiving end of the "flirty look" I decided to cover myself completely to avoid ever getting one of those again (I was wearing baggy shorts to just above my knee).
