| Sorrento | gand hotel angioliere Posted: Fri February 8, 2008 07:35 PM UTC
OK-I aksed several months ago but need a little help-Is this place worthwhile for four nights. Is it easy into Sorrento from this hotel(no car)=-I read it is easy to the train for Naples trip for a day. What else is nearby walking distance. Recommend this or someplace else-Want to stay near Naples so we can go there on a day trip for a walking tour and also be able to get to Sorrento or any other small area with restuarants etc. Will most likely use taxi,s--Thank you-Gene

The Circumvesuviana train runs regularly from Sorrento to Naples, so you will have no difficulty getting between the two places. http://www.vesuviana.it/ for times/stations.
There are also buses: http://www.sitabus.it/wps/portal/OrariCampania I don't think you could call Sorrento a 'small area' though! http://www.sorrentotourism.com/eng/index.html will give you information on what to see etc (as well as the VT Sorrento pages).

Sorrento is a great place to spend four nights as it is a good jumping off spot for so many interesting places. You can go to Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, Positano, Ravello, Amalfi etc. etc. etc. the list just goes on and on.
How far out of Sorrento is this hotel you have mentioned? I would be more inclined to find a hotel in Sorrento. It would probably be far more convenient.

The hotel is in Seiano which is sort of no-mans land between Sorrento and Naples. There are some spectacular views along here but I don't recall much in the way of an interesting town. It is good 15 - 20 minute taxi ride into the part of Sorrento you will want to visit and maybe 30 - 40 minutes into Naples. The Hotel looks gorgeous but you may want to look at places nearer Sorrento. We stayed at La Tonnerella
- see pictures at http://www.latonnarella.it/inglese.swf - on the Via Capo which rises up the cliffs at the far end of the town. It was very quite, has absolutely spectacular views from most rooms, is a pleasant 15 walk to the old town and harbor for the boats to Capri etc., bus to Amalfi etc. (It is probably too far to walk uphill from the station with luggage.) I think the prices are only half of the Angioliere's.

Taxis are so expensive ,the sita buses leave from the railway station, they meet incoming trains. Sorrento is a big place like the other vter mentioned. It is a fantastic place to be centralised to all the above attractions including the Isle of Capri. You can get the public bus to Amalfi for a few euros and have the ride of your life, going from Sorrento sit on the opposite side of the driver for fantastic views and the return trip sit on the drivers side. You can hop off at Positano if you choose.Restaurents are everywhere through out this area so it will come down to personal choice,I must admit the pizzas in this area are simply divine.Enjoy your stay and yes to answer your question it is well worth it,the views are spectacular.
