I will do Mediterranean cruise in May and I would like to know if it it necessary to join shore excursion of Malta with the cruise or can we do ourself.
The ship will be at Valletta and how we could take a bus to visit the city and small lanes.... |

Valletta is quite a small town, so that you can easily visit it on foot. I think you can see most of the town in three or four hours.
Ciao!

Hello, I am from Malta and of course you don't need to take excursions because you can easily do it on your own. The cruise liner will arrive in the Vallletta Waterfront so from there to the city of Valletta you can go on foot cos it is approx. 10mins walk. Even the capital city (Valletta) is easily visited and you can venture around in the alleys and see how people live. Even there are a lot of shops if you like shopping. By the way if you are staying more than one night, in front of where the ship stays there are many of cafeterias, restaurants and pubs. Enjoy your holiday and if you need more help do not hesitate to contact me.

I've never been to Sicily. You can post your question in the "Palermo forum".
Have a good holiday!

We caught one of those funky old buses from Valletta and headed over to Mdina. It was worth it just to ride on the funky bus! We stopped by the tourism office in Valletta before heading off, just ask when you get there and someone can point the way, no need to do one of those expensive shore excursions here.
The boards over at www.cruisecritic.com are a really good source of info regarding shore excursions on your own.
