We will be spending 1 night in Santa Margherita prior to going to Tuscany area.
Any suggestions for a nice, clean place for the 4 of us. 2 adults and 2 teenagers Thank you, |

Wow. I was just talking to my wife about 2 hours ago about Santa Margherita and how great it was to be able to walk the trail to Portofino from the hotel we stayed at. A Best Western Hotel, the Hotel Regina Elena is on the lone road to Portofino. They have a private beach and a roof top pool. Nice, clean, and a good restaurant. Across the street is the beach and port with a walking promenade. The main part of the town Santa Margherita is only about two blocks away. See their website: http://www.reginaelena.it/

just a few hundred yards closer to SML is perhaps the cheapest Leading Hotel of the World, the Grand Hotel Miramare with a heated salt water 3 level pool, large rooms, overlooking the sea or the garden, and a great included buffet breakfast. Only problem - the Regina Elena has a private parking lot, the Grand Hotel does not but one can park on the street easily. We also stayed once at the Regina Elena - some of the rooms are right over the highway and terribly noisy due to passing motor scooters and not all rooms were air-conditioned when we stayed.

Lew, didn't your room have a metal curtain to curb the noise. Mine did at the Regina Elena.

It was hot as hades, the room was one of those without airconditioning, the room window was open, and we checked out after one night to move to the Miramare. The manager was surprised because we had a three night reservation, but we told him we were moving on down the coast. What we didn't tell him was that we were only moving 250 yards to his neighbor. We happen to like this hotel, stayed there several times since the early 80's, the last only a few years ago.

Ah, My room was with a balcony to enjoy the outside air and a view of the beach and water.

No, we didn't have the room with the balcony. We had the second story room with a window - but next door we have always been lucky enough to get third and fourth floor rooms overlooking the beach and sea. Back to the poster for a minute = imagine that = do try and get to Camogli as well as Portofino especially if you have a car available. Eat in one of the cheap and excellent pasta places by the traffic circle downtown. Avoid the Lido downtown, both the hotel and their restaurant by the way. SML is a great little resort.
