Bologna Bologna?Maranello?Modena?
Posted: Thu February 7, 2008 05:42 AM UTC
Taking my ten year old grandson on a "special trip" He wants to go to the Ferrari Museum. Since I want him to experience more of Italy than a car museum I have booked a trip that starts in Rome and ends in Venice. We will take the train to one of the above citiss. Which area has the most activities for an active boy? I plan on staying in this area for 3 days then take the train back to Venice to catch a flight back home. Hotel suggestions? Any other car museums nearby? I will not be renting a car--will use the train to get around so hotels should be close to train stations.

Hotel suggestion near airport in Venice?

I have spent lots of time in Italy but mainly in Rome so I could use all the help I can get to make this trip special.

Don't know Maranello or Modena, but I have been to Bologna a few times. Things that stand out in my mind for kids are:

Torre degli Asinelli - medieval tower to climb
Museo di Anatomia Umana - waxworks of the human body and lots of strange and gruesome things in glass cases
Nutelleria - cafe selling various sweet things stuffed with Nutella. I have a tip on this one :)

The main piazza often has colourful things going on. Bologna is a vibrant city and youthful. There's also an astronomy museum. I know some children that age are interested in the subject, but I haven't been so I don't know how suitable it would be for a 10-year-old.

Tre Vecchi is a good hotel in Bologna close to the station, but then all of Bologna's centre is relatively close. The city is compact.

The only other car-related sights I can think of are in Turin, which would be out of your way...
