we will be in Mendoza from 4-04 to 4-10. i will be renting a car to go from Mendoza to other places, and wonder if i should have a car in Mendoza. we have been to other AR cities where the traffic is treacherous. is it difficult for a stranger to cope with Mendoza driving? thanks.

Hi there, I didn't find driving in Mendoza a problem. There are a few one way roads so make sure you get a map and try to plan your route before you set out so that you can position yourself in the right lanes but I think you will be fine.

in argentina you must practice offensive driving.

We had no problems driving in and around Mendoza other than the hazards of the not-too-scale maps provided to the various vineyards. Much of the city area itself is laid out on a grid with wide streets and the one-way system is not difficult to suss out. If you've driven elsewhere in Argentina you should have no problems coping with Mendoza at all. The drive up into the mountains to Puente de Incas is spectacular, don't miss it!
