| Melbourne | Local Rental Car Agencies? Posted: Wed February 6, 2008 01:02 AM UTC
Are there local rental car agencies that might offer rates less expensive than the traditional ones like Hertz, Avis, etc., etc.? We're looking to rent a midsize from the airport on 4/20, returning on 4/25. Thanks for any help you can give us.

Don't be put off by the name, but Rent a Bomb (yes I know it sounds odd) is quite good. Go to http://www.rentabomb.com.au/index.html
Another one - http://www.airportrentacar.com.au/melbourne/ One little "con" that car rental companies engage in is to sell you CityLink pass (about $10/day) for our tollway system. Unless you are actually using the tollway, don't get the extra.

Try http://www.webcarhire.com/ They deal with several rental companies so might get you a good rate. I always find that sometimes even the big companies have good deals if you ask. Also you might try some WEB discount travel companies such as travel.com.au or try http://www.standbycars.com.au/

And don't forget, when you are 'costing' out the prospect, take into consideration the insurance you have to pay . The prices may look OK but then comes the compulsory insurance !!
However the 'rent-a-bomb' type is still the most economical.

And for driving safety start now to drill into your mind "The LEFT side of the road is the CORRECT side !!" Repeat .... "The LEFT side ...."
Make up a sticker for your dashboard. They should be supplied. Must get some 'VT' ones made !!!
