Krabi Krabi Travel Advice Please
Posted: Wed February 6, 2008 12:08 AM UTC
Hi. My partner and I (mid 20’s) are hoping to holiday in Thailand in April. We would like to stay in the country for 2 weeks and are hoping to spend a couple of days in Bangkok and then head south to Krabi for 7-8 days and perhaps spend a few nights somewhere else like Koh Lanta or Koh Lipe.
We do not want to become bored. We enjoy nature and adventure but also like to spend some time in lay back bars at night. My questions are as follows, and any advice would be greatly appreciated:
• Should we stay in Krabi for up to 10 nights and use it as a base for visiting other areas, or spend a week there and then a few nights somewhere else?
• Is Ao Nang beach busy and/or noisy with tourists in April, and if we were to stay at Railey Beach is Ao Nang nightlife accessible from here?
• Any recommendations for accommodation at approx. 2000-3000BHT per night?
Thank you for your help!

Hi! We just got back from Krabi 6 weeks ago. I would recommend staying in Ao Nang beach only. Here I would stay only a few nights as it is easily walked in onlya couple of hours and you may be bored after a couple of days here.I could not stay here for 10 nights myself...but others may be able to.
There is a good Best Western on the main esplanade that might suit your budget.
You can stay at other outer beach areas, but you will be paying for taxis every day to get to Ao Nang, because this is where you will find most of the restaurants, bars etc.
Ao Nang is busy, but not too busy...its not as busy as Pkuket.
I would recommend going out to the islands to stay as much as possible. This is where you can do many activities during the day.
Hope this helps. I have some pics of Ao Nang on my site.

Hi, I would recommend staying in Krabi for a few days, there is quite a bit to do there, you can get out to the islands from there, as well as a couple of great day trips. There is the Fossil Beach, the Hot Springs (Khlong Thom) and the Emerald Pool (Sra Morakot) - I have some pictures on my Krabi pages. Krabi is very picturesque, if you like photography. After that, I would head to Phuket, which is only about 2 hours' drive, as it's easy to head up to Khao Lak if you'd like to do another road trip.

We have only spent one night in Krabi, as we usually just go up there on day trips. We stayed at the Krabi Sands Resort, which is at Khlong Muang (same area as Sheraton). It's a small, clean, basic resort with pool and amenities such as mini-bar, cable TV and airconditioning. The prices are very reasonable. Josh, the manager is very friendly and accommodating. their website is; www.krabisands.com and email; info@krabisands.com

2 = you can hop around to other islands and stay for a few night here and there

3 = 10 days in Krabi - some people love it but i think it's a bit too much

4 = AO NANG - if you have a choice, stay elsewhere - not that it's bad but it's the main strip

Ao Nang is a good base to explore Phi-Phi islands and Railey Bay. The strip has plenty of restaurants and bars but not as many as resorts on Phuket. There are numerous boat trips or long tail boats for hire to take to nearby islands. We went year before last for 9 nights and are returning this year for 5 nights with 5 nights on Ko Lanta. We stayed at the Krabi La Playa in pool access rooms. Will probably return to the same hotel or may try Krabi Resort Hotel.
