| São Paulo | Urgent re Maresias Hotels, day trips , restaurants and transportation Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 03:13 PM UTC
My wife and I are traveling to Maresias in mid Feb. I would appreciate recommendations with regard to reasonable hotels with ocean view. Also would like to know if there are any recommended day trips... my wife and I enjoy beach, history, diving and fishing. Regarding transportation, are taxis available or can I rent scooter or car for 3-4 days.

Hi Rich,
Firstly, concerning hotels, not too many in Maresias overlook the ocean. On the beach itself I think you'll only find http://www.maresiashotel.com.br/new/, if you stay longer than five days they charge mid-price rates on the weekend (R$ 190 garden view; R$ 290 ocean view - double room with breakfast, inc. VAT, both cases). But there are several other "pousadas" (or inns) which are fine and more modest in cost. Also, I think you'd be better off renting a car, because the region is full of nice beaches that deserve visiting, so you could spend some tow days touring the south, one day touring the north, spending time at nice beaches not too far away (within, say, 30km south, 7km north). There's also Ilhabela (Beautiful Island), but that deserves a trip of its own. The coastal beaches I would recommend: - south of Maresias: Barra do Una, Juqueí, Barra do Sahy and Baleia - north of Maresias: Paúba, Toque-Toque Pequeno, Santiago and Calhetas. Hope this helps. Cheers, Cello

Hello Rich,
I would recommend Coconuts Hotel (www.coconutshotel.com.br) or Maresias Beach Hotel (www.maresiasbeachhotel.com.br). Both with ocean view. Enjoy your trip. Isaac
