I am off to Gambia and staying in Kololi Beach club, could some one please give me some info on tipping. what is the normal amount for tipping porters restaurants etc. Also, do you tip in local currency or sterling for porters, cos when we arrive i will only have sterling until i change the money.

Hi, I'm sure you will all love the time that you spend in that wonderful country. The first time that you will probably need to tip is at the Airport. It is almost impossible not to find that your bags are being looked after by a local porter. You can fight them off, but it's almost not worth it. They will expect a minimum of a £1 coin.
After that piece of downright theft (almost) the pace calms down, as do the expectations of large tips. From now on, it's local currency, and you need to remember that this is a poor country. Keep the tips to 15% max, and you'll be OK.

the Gambians will find a way to change the money ;-)
and if you tipp in BP or Euro, they will sure have a better rate on the black market than you will ave. So both is ok.
