Aachen Free parking near a rail station in Aachen
Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 01:20 PM UTC
Hi,

Would anyone have an idea where to leave a car for a few days near a rail station in Aachen? Not necessareily Hbf. This should be safe neighbourhood, but preferably with free parking. I see that Aachen-West is close to the University, anyone knows if this area is safe?

Thanks, Matt

The Aachen city council is very fond of its parking meter revenues, so free parking close to the city centre or Hbf is rather sparse.

The area around Aachen-West is indeed likely your best bet (I would definitely prefer it to Aachen-Rothe Erde), just some notes to it: There are plenty of (free) parking lots along the roads nearby (e.g. Süsterfeldstraße, Seffenter Weg or Geschwister-Scholl-Straße), but north of the station it's getting slightly industrialized, south and west of it is taken in at large by the university, so it's getting rather deserted there at night. Try to get a spot either directly in front of the (disused) station building or along the nearby Intzestraße, alas I cannot recall precisely whether there aren't parking meters as well. Obviously, noone can guarantee your car won't be broken into.

After 9 a.m. students will start flocking in into that area: Either beat them to it or prepare for a tedious search.
