Help! We need accomodations for July 2008 in or around Toyako!
Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 02:59 AM UTC
I will be attending the 2008 Hokkaido Summit at Lake Toya in July together with some of the analysts form my research Group. We will be about 20 people in total and right now it seems like we will be camping for the entire time there. Its really not all that acceptable for accredited journalists to have to rough it because they can't find accomodations within a 50 km radius of the Summit site! Does anyone know of cheaper pensions or dormitories close to the Lake Toya resort that might be able to accomodate our Group? Any information would be a great help!!!

Thanks! We've already gone through some of the official channels (since you have to register with the housing commission) but I'm just interested if anyone knows of smaller, private accomodations that might still be available and that would allow us to stay on budget.

Hello,

I often use yahoo.co.jp lodging reservations for my own travelling, and for your case inputting sample conditions such as: generally 30km radius to Toyako town, check-in 6 July 2008, three nights, 4 people x 3 rooms (as this search function accepts search for up 14 people at once), the following list of hotels appears:

http://domestic.hotel.travel.yahoo.co.jp/bin/ajsearch?ken=01&larea=0103&via=top&tuki=7&hi=6&haku=3&pnum=4&rnum=3&x=48&y=13

Clicking on the little earth symbol links to a map. It seems that there are no openings for lodging directly in Toyako, though there are some in Noboribetsu, about 30-40 km southeastward on the motorway (or train).

Please see the map of Toyako area to give you perspective of roads and distance:
http://map.yahoo.co.jp/pl?p=%C6%B6%CC%EC%B8%D0&;lat=42.56066194&lon=140.81266083&type=&gov=01584.16

Any online translator should work upon these pages if you'd like to input new conditions or learn further details.

Cheers!

R.

Thanks for the helpful answer! We were looking to stay in one of the surrounding towns but we ran into the problem of not knowing how to go about finding hotels in them. Your suggestions will make it easier for us to hedge our bets and ensure no one needs to rough it at the summit!
