Malta Travelling with my mother
Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 01:05 AM UTC
I am travelling to Malta (staying in Qawra)in June 2008, with my healthy and curious mother of 78. However, she is not that agile.
She likes a good time, shopping, scenery and food!
Can anyone recommend good boat/sailing trips, day trips, seafood restaurants ON THE WATER, easy shopping areas.
I think she will be fine taking the local buses - they look easy to navigate!
Look forward to any great tips.
susan.

First: use the local buses to travel around Malta - they are excellent. There are several companies offering good harbour cruises, the best known of which is Captain Morgan. The ferry trip to Gozo is great: your mother will love it. All of these things are easily possible for a 78-year-old.

Captain Morgan is the usual choice for most holiday makers as has already been said. The ferry to Gozo is nice and maybe visit Vittoria

Don't miss the Blue Lagoon cause it's enchanting! And if you can visit the south of the island and go to Blue Grotto as well.

Pretty Bay is also in the south and it's nice to spend a day on the beach. If you also want to visit the inner villages, you could take a look at Birkirkara.

Marsaxlokk is a nice fishing village..

For shopping I'd recommend Paceville, where you'll find a huge shopping mall and lots of restaurants, too. Another good place for shopping is Sliema.

And while in Malta, you shouldn't miss the beautiful island of Gozo and its Blue window. I visited Malta last year and the day trip to Gozo was one of the highlights of my holiday!

Hi,
Take the half hour boat trip to the village of Marsaxlokk. Your mother will enjoy t he fantastic village market there plus it is a lovely village and a beautiful boat trip. Enjoy. Phil

I would object to Pretty bay, it is just a huge harbour terminal. Do not miss Mdina, by all means, it is small and so phantastic. Market in Marsasxlokk is interesting only on Sundays when all the funny fish come. Why not rent a car just for a few days? No public bus will take you to the cliffs of Dinghi for sunset. As for shopping, just enter Valetta fhrough the gate from bus terminal and walk the collonade, everything is there

If they rent a car and they want to visit Blue Grotto, and if they have time, a little stop in Pretty Bay is not that bad and the beach is nice.. but of course it depends on time and routing.. I was glad to visit that place as well but I had 16 days.
