Salzburg What will be happening i Salzburg in June?

Hi!

We have booked a trip to Munich/Salzburg in the beginning of June this year and I found it very difficult to find avaliable rooms in Salzburg on that period. So I was wondering if it will be something special then och is it just a regular summer-fever to start booking everything now and at that particular time?:-)
Thanks for your answers!

Austria and Switzerland is hosting the UEFA football finals. Salzburg has a game on the 10th, 14th and 18th of June. Why not stay in a town outside Salzburg, they all have good bus connections into town.

You might take a look at Bertchesgaden, which is near Salzburg, but in Germany. You could travel to the Koenigsee and the Eagle's Nest which offers a breathtaking view. You are near enough to Salzburg, you can easily travel there, by bus, or train, on the non-game days. Gary

The previous post of staying in Germany is a good idea. If you don't want to be Germany and want to experience a cute small town by a lake in Austria, you should also have a look at Fuschl am See. They have some nice B&B's there plus some good hotels. From there you can also explore the Salzkammergut lakes region. Its about 25 klms from Salzburg and there is a bus service every hour or so.
Hope this helps
John

Thank you for all answers - now I understand why it is hard to get a room then. About staying in Germany - I would like to avoid it. Mostly because we will be staying in Munich 10 more days (Salzburg is in the middle of our trip). Is there any other places in Austria near Salzburg where we could stay on a cheaper basis? Just 35-40 minutes by bus is a little bit too far to go every day.

Try: 1)Hallein -Twenty kilometres south of Salzburg and served by regular bus and train services.
2) Groding (10 klm from Salzburg) good B&B's and some hotels. Check out http://www.groedig.net/
3)Ebenau (15 klm from Salzburg)sleepy town with a few guesthouses and pensions, also consider the town of Hof nearby. http://www.ebenau.at/
4)Oberndorf bei Salzburg (20 klm) Its claim to fame is the Silent Night Chapel where the famous Christmass carol was written. http://www.stillenacht-oberndorf.at/de/oberndorf/gastronomie.asp?titel=Unterkünfte&art=09

I still like my first suggestion of Fuchl am See. If you want to stay in a cute Austrian Village then this is perfect. Not Only will you be able to get to Salzburg, but you can tour the lakes area including the UNESCO town of Hallstatt and interesting places such as Bad Ischl or St Gilgen (home of Mozart's mother) etc.

I don't know how long you will stay in the area, but Salzburg is very busy and lots of tourists (especially if the football is on) so you may want to go and check out these towns anyway. If you still want to be close to Salzburg, then I would try Goerding first.

Hope you will find something you like. John
