There is a website with lots of information about public bus transporation in Argentina. Perhaps it might be helpful for you.
See: www.plataforma10.com.ar

Most probably there is no direct connection between Salta and Iguazu.
For that site you will have to enter the cities where you have to change buses.
I'm very sorry but can not help you (didn't make that journey yet).

Hi,
I found Tucuman -> Igazu on andesmarīs webpage, www.andesmar.com

Depart 05/02/2008 11:30
Arrive 06/02/2008 08:15

CAMA 211.00 pesos
Semi CAMA 176.00 pesos

There is a Andesmar bus between Salta and Tucuman, you probably have to go to see an agent to book the ticket and change of bus in Tucuman.

The shortest distance seems to be from Salta to Tucuman, this will be a 4 hour journey by bus.

From Tucuman to Puerto Iguazu the travel time by bus would be 24 hours.

So you would have to stay over in Tucuman for one night becuase there is only one bus per day that travels to Puerto Iguazu.

HAve not travelled this route, the source of information is the 2005 addition of The Rough Guide to Argentina

Too many hours traveling alone by bus. I think I have to find a city between Salta and Iguazu to stay for a night and continue the day after.

What about Corriedes? It seems that its somewhere in the midle looking at the map but I'm not sue if there is something interesting there. Does anybody know if its on the way to Puerto Iguazu from Tukuman?

you will not be alone, the bus is full of people :-)

If you go in a bus with Cama the seat will be very big and recline so that it almost becomes like a bed, you will probably be served 2-3 lighter meals (check this when you buy the ticket), watch some movies before sleeping and arrive the next morning relatively rested. Its a great way to travel.

The problem is that I cant take the bus late in the afternoon and be at Iguazu early in the morning. It seems that I have to start the trip in the morning and arrive the morning after! Before that I will use bus from Mendoza to Cordova, then to Tukuman, then to Salta.

So, I guess the last thing I will need is a 26 hours long trip by bus :)
