How far is it from Tynset to Trondheim? Is it cheaper to take a buss or a train there?

The train from Tynset to Trondheim takes ca 3 hours, see www.nsb.no for info and prices. If you get a "minipris" ticket the price will be 199NOK (more info about these discount tickets on the nsb website - I also have a tip about these tickets on my Norway page)
See www.nor-way.no for info about buses. The bus might be a bit cheaper than train, at least if you get the student discount.

Tynset isn`t really the capital of Norway or anywhere for that matter. There are no direct trains from Tynset to Trondheim. Røros is the regional centre, from where you can get nonstop bus and train services. I assume there are mre frequent local/regional buses going to Røros giving you better options than the through buses (Oslo-Trondheim) though Østerdalen Valley. But even from there they are not that frequent. You may consider going via Folldal by bus to Hjerkinn station to catch the Oslo-Trondheim train there.
