Zakopane hot springs parks over the Slovakia border
Posted: Sun February 3, 2008 01:40 AM UTC
I have heard that there are some hot water parks just a few km over the border into Slovakia with wave pools and slides. Anyone know about these or if I could get public transportation from Zakopane to these places?

The main water park is AquaCity in Poprad - in the Tatras, just as Zakopane is over the border. I have not been to Slovakia but a Polish friend has visited Poprad and raves about AquaCity. She's been numerous times, usually stopping overnight, so it's obviously a quick and easy trip over there. AquaCity is heavily advertised in Zakopane, so I assume this is where the bus for Poprad departs from. I hope someone else can provide you with more precise info!

This site has more spas and parks: http://www.cometoslovakia.com/springs.html

I'm hoping to visit myself soon! It looks great.

Hello,

I have been to Poprad last May and I think it is still quite a bit from there to Zakopane where I have also once been.

Poprad is served by the Tatra Electric Railway which operates to Strbske Pleso, Starı Smokovec or Tatranská Lomnica in the Slovakian part of the High Tatry. If you can get to one of these places you should then take the train to Poprad.

I hope this helps

Yes it does look kind of far. Meander park is only a few km from Zakopane but aqua city looks like more fun :)
Still time and travel is a consideration. Maybe we will decide in Zakopane.
Thanks so much for your replies.

I have not long got back from Zakopane, and spent a day at the Aquapark across the Border in Slovakia.

Meander Park is in a place called Oravice. It costs about £10 for 3 hours and I would advise you change money into Slovak currency rather than pay in Zlotys (which is readily accepted) as you will pay a little extra.

There is also a ski slope there and Meander Park has it's own rooms for rent if you plan to stay over night. You MUST book the room in advance though as we were told by a girl that works there that booking a room without a reservation is nearly impossible.

The Spa treatments are pretty good and very relaxing.

The bus from Zakopane to Oravice only runs on Saturday and Sunday, although we took a taxi on Monday and paid 150 zlotys, about 50-70 zlotys too much.

We stayed in Oravice for 1 night in the Chata Oravice which is just across the road and a little up the hill from Meander Park. The room cost about £10 for the night split between two people. It was very basic, but clean and the staff freindly.

I would highly recommend eating in the restaurant at Meander Park as the food is simply breathtaking and the price is more than reasonable.
The Salmon in Dill Sauce was the best meal I had all week.

All in all Meander Park in Oravice, Slovakia is a great day out.
