Is this a nice place to stay in bermuda or is it a little boring and too far off the beaten path type of place? We plan on renting a moped but will it still be difficult to get around the island from this point?

Somerset is a small community, good place to have peace & quiet. It has a main drag with some shops, pubs, etc., a marina, and an historic cemetery by the side of the road not far from Watford Bridge, which also has a ferry terminal where you can hop a ferry to Hamilton (30 mins. + or -).
The Bermuda bus/ferry system is excellent, and I recommend it. Buy a pass, which is good for unlimited public land and water transportation. A major bus/ferry terminus is at Royal Naval Dockyards, not far from Somerset. Use the moped for side trips to beaches, restaurants, attractions, etc. You'll have no trouble geeting around. Bermuda has only three main thorofares: North Shore Rd., Middle Rd., and South Rd. (Middle Rd. runs through Somerset). Don't fail to visit St. George's, the original capital, loaded with historic sites and charming colonial-era side streets and buildings. It's at the opposite end of the island from Somerset, but ferry (45 minutes) from Dockyards, or bus, gets you there easily.

Ex-Mainer's points are all correct. To answer another part of your question, I would personally think Somerset a little boring to stay for more than an afternoon, though it is very pleasant. If you were to drive into Hamilton, it could take you 30 to 40 minutes, and to go to St. Georges by scooter for a day is a fair undertaking. Your butts would be sore at the end of the day. I would recommend staying in one of the more central parishes and visiting Somerset on the way to or from Dockyard.

thanks for both your replies; they help me with my decision. I think were going to stay some where near warwick; its not much more central but at least its central enough for us.
