Addis Ababa One night Stopover in Addis
Posted: Sat February 2, 2008 01:19 PM UTC
Hi
The last night of a five week trip (May-June) to Malawi and Tanzania will be a stopover in Addis courtesy of Ethiopian Airlines. Rachel and I are due in at 8:15pm and will depart next day at midday for London. EA say they will put us up in a hotel and I'm wondering if anyone knows the hotel/s they use, and anything about them, where they may be etc. Its obviously a short time in a big (new) place but any thoughts on what it's possible to do, see, eat (vegetarian) would be very welcome.
Thanks Dave

Hello,

I have written you 2 tips for eating out. If you are a vegatarian, you have come to the right city. Look at the first 2 tips here:

Ask you airline what hotel they will put you in and I will write you a tip.

Have a great time!

All the best,

Hi Dave

I would recommend you try to get some details from the airline about the hotel you will be staying in. When Ethiopian Airlines did the same to me, the hotel they put us in was rotten. I don't normally moan about hotels much, but this one was rubbish. The bed was damp and the shower had a covering of mould. In my opinion, it would be worth having a conversation with them before you leave about your hotel and trying to get them to commit to a decent one.

If you do get the chance though, try to get to visit St Georges Cathedral. It is only a couple of £ in a taxi and well worth the trip. I've got more info about it on my Addis page if you want a read.

Don't let my comments about the hotel put you off though, it was the only bad thing about my trip.

Have a great trip yourself though.

Pete

I also have a one night stop over in Addis, but I don't know about the hotel situation. Does EA automatically put me up or how do I arrange that?

I had actually booked my flight as part of a package and my agent told me about the change. It does seem pretty common for EA to cancel flights....

I would email your travel company. That's what you paid them to do. If you want to double check you can telephone (do not email) Ethiopian Airlines in Addis. They all speak English.

This is their Churchill Rd Branch:

251-11-5517000 / 6656666 / 5178320
FAX : 251 116611474
WORKING HOURS : MON - SUN 07:00 - 18:00

The are nice folks there. If you have any problems ask for their Hilton Hotel location.

I also have a tip here with a different telephone number.

Like I said though, you paid a Tour Company good money - its their job to sort thing for you. If you get really stuck, lt me know and I can advise a hotel and/or have someone meet you.

Addis is a freindly place.

All the best,

DAO
