| Mumbai | Gordon House Posted: Sat February 2, 2008 10:17 AM UTC
Hi,
I'll be staying at The Gordon House for a couple of nights and would like to find out if there is any nearby laundromat? What are the usual operating hours and rates? Any info would be appreciated! |

Hi Coanne - there is a laundry service at the Gordon House but I'm sure it's expensive. There aren't any self-service laundromats as you know them in Mumbai. There are plenty of laundry/dry cleaners where they'll wash/press your clothes for you. You can usually get them back the next day. I'd recommend washing your own delicates. Rates run around 10 rupees an item. Dry cleaning is a little more. Ask the concierge at your hotel where a laundry is located. Enjoy!
(The bucks that the previous poster is referring to are rupees - 10 bucks = 10 rupees.)

Thank you Donna for explaining this Buck business. I thought it was called Rupees not the american slang word Bucks!

The currency in India is Rupees but the slang bucks is also used for them. Quite a difference in the amount between a Rupee buck and a US dollar buck!!

As Gaurav said, tip the room boy Rs 10 or perhaps a bit more if he is really nice, and he will get your clothes cleaned at the neighbourhood laundry for a reasonable price. Laundry is cheaper than dry cleaning so specify what you want. Laundry rates at ordinary non brand name laundries - for shirts would be around Rs 15, trousers around Rs 25. Not sure about the dry cleaning rates expect around 30% higher.
