Anyone know the cheapest way to get from Melbourne to New Zealand? Also is it easy enough to get from Christchurch to Auckland, would you need to fly or can you get a bus/boat/train etc?
You can fly with Qantas, Virgin Blue and Jetstar to NZ. Just check out which flights are the cheapest. To get from the North Island to the South Island there are ferries from Picton to Wellington. To get from Chch to Picton and from Wellington to Auckland you can take a regular bus or a tour bus like the Kiwi Experience or sth. Air New Zealand and Virgin Blue also fly from Chch to Auckland. Take a look at my NZ page to see some more info on transportation and some direct links. Have great time in NZ!
Air New Zealand www.airnewzealand.com also fly between New Zealand and Australia and offer some good fares.
Emirates have good fares too: http://www.emirates.com/
You will need to check them all out to see who has the best offer for the dates you want. Good luck.
AT the moment it purely a case of checking them all to see which one has the best deal as they are all bringing out great deals from time to time :-) Bit of a Tasman price war going on I guess, great for all of us!
If you choose Emirates you have to consider that the direct flight goes from Melbourne to Auckland and from Sydney to Christchurch.
However, once they had such great fares that it was cheaper to fly Chch to AKL on Air NZ and then on Emirates to Melbourne. But sure, a direct flight is also the best option. Normally I fly Chch - Melbourne by Pacific Blue.
