Hi, there are not hostels in Caracas, or at least not safe ones. You have the option to rent a room in an appartment or to choose a hotel. Near Plaza Venezuela there are plenty of hotels by Prolongacion Av. Las Acacias. Hotel Yare, Hotel Bruno are cheap options. If you want to rent a room, check on www.tuinmueble.com.

I'm in a really beautiful area called Paraíso. I pay 800 bolivares a month, which is $400 at the official rate of exchange, but if you bring plenty of US dollars in cash, you can reduce that figure to about $250 or less by exchanging the money on the street, which is fairly safe and easy. I share a bath but there is no problem. There's hardly anyone ever in it. Contact me at udikeyes@yahoo.com if you'd like to discuss it more. But I'll be gone by the time you arrive, Still I can put you in contact with the people probably. It's a fifteen-minute walk to the subway, and there are buses around too.
