| Skopje | Skopje Accommodation in Sept Posted: Fri February 1, 2008 10:37 PM UTC
As many hotels are booked up by fellow Scots travelling for the W/C qualifier football match, can anyone help with contacts who have self catering or guest houses? Online booking agents are asking inflated prices like 168 euros per double room for 3 star hotels for the few rooms they claim are still available. Dates are 4 to 8 September. We would rather pay someone who will get the money rather than a large percentage to an agency. Also we would rather meet Macedonian people and their families in family run hotels if they exist in Skopje.
Thanks for any help. |

well i have a friend that works in a small hotel that is located in the center, near the city park. its just 100-150 meters from the stadium and round 500m from the main square. the price is round 60 euros per double room per night, but i think i can even get some discount! :P feel free to contact me, i'll go there tomorrow and ask for all the details (to be honest with you, i have no idea how the hotel is called lol), i can even snap few pictures if ya want! cheers

Thanks for the help everyone. I think the problem is that someone, somewhere has contacted many hotels in Skopje asking them to hold rooms. This may be because a travel company will do charter flights with accommodation from Scotland and needs to reserve rooms until they know how many people will go. I also suspect some of the online booking agencies are cashing in on the sudden demand for Skopje hotels on these dates. A lot of my friends were very quick booking whatever was available online. It is our first game abroad for nearly a year so many Scotland supporters wanted to get on with booking flights and hotels as soon as they knew where we were to go.
It might be that nearer the time rooms will start to appear online again but it would be good to have something confirmed since so many of my friends have guaranteed accommodation. Following Scotland abroad has meant visiting many countries I might not have otherwise spent any time in. It gives many of us tasters of towns, cities and countries we want to return to one day. Sometimes Scots don`t come back home from the places and people they have fallen in love with when they went to see a football match!

I know you posted awhile ago, but have you thought of checking things like couchsurfing and hospitality club? I met a few of the people here that participate in it, and they were all very nice people.
