Baltimore commute from towson, md to bolling afb
Posted: Thu January 31, 2008 12:46 AM UTC
I'm planning on doing a 5-week externship at the bolling airforce base in DC. My boyfriend lives in Towson..how painful will the commute be by car? How long during rush hour would it take? My hours are 7am-4pm. Thanks!

I'm used to long commutes. I go from NH to Boston everyday, which is 1.5-2 hours.

Greetings! Towson is north of Baltimore City, yet still inside the beltway. Your best bet for travel would be the Amtrac Train or the Metro Rail. Check the schedules and nearest station locations for departure time. Outside of that I would not advise driving by car.The worst drivers in the world all live in and around the D/C area. This equates to grid/lock on a daily basics. Without a doubt, you don't want to be in traffic between the hours of 7am and 5pm. I know, you still have to adventure out and see for yourself. That being the case, just keep your gas tank on full. What would normanally be a 1.5 hr. trip will probably take 2.5 to 4 hrs. Remember, I told you so. Good luck, Regards, Bob

It will be a long commute for you. Bolling is near Anacostia Virginia near Washington. I used to commute from Baltimore to Washington for my job. I used the MARC train line. You would probably have to use the MARC or drive to New Carrollton Maryland to catch the DC Metro. Traffic is a nightmare driving to DC. It is easy a two hour commute for less than a 50 mile trip. Check out the MARC website for train times from Baltimore. Then check out the DC Metro site to see which Metro line goes to Bolling. I live in Baltimore city but drove out into the country to an area called Halethorpe to catch the MARC when I commuted. The parking is free at Halethorpe and its about a twenty minute drive from downtown Baltimore. The parking at Pennsylvania Station in Baltimore is quite expensive.

Rush hour traffic from Balto to DC is a nightmare. Good way to grow old fast. I lasted 3 weeks and could not take it anymore, then switched to the MARC train from Halethorpe.
