| Cape Town | Capetown - Where to stay! Posted: Tue January 29, 2008 08:37 PM UTC
Me and 7 friends are travelling to Capetown for 7 nights in June'08 would love some advice on where 'the' places to stay are?
Have heard V & A waterfront or Camps bay are lively places. Could anyone confirm and or recommend any quality hotels. Tips on the 'happening' bars & clubs would be cool 2. Have planned to go shark watching, sky diving. What else is cool to do in the Cape. Thanks in advance!! |

What price range are you looking for? The V&A is very touristy and the accommodation is expensive compared to other parts of Cape Town.

Hotels which I like are located at the waterfront. The Portswood and Commordore Hotels are good quality hotels in a prime position.

We just stayed in the Protea President in Bantry Bay/Sea Point. The rooms were nice, clean, had mini-fridge and microwave. For quick stock-ups, there's a Spar grocery store only a block away. There's a decent seafood restaurant nearby too (Jimmy's Killer Prawns). It is defintely not in the thick of the waterfront, but it was an easy bus ride. The bus stops about a block down the hill from the hotel. It was very easy to catch the bus from a couple of places right around the V & A Waterfront. I know nothing of the club scence, but as for tourist attractions, I loved Robben Island, the District Six Museum, and (of course!) Table Mountain.

There are stunning hotels in Cape Town, central ones being a couple mentioned already, plus Mount Nelson (my all-time favourite!), Cape Grace and Table Bay Hotels.
Cape Town has wine tasting, surfing, culture, art galleries, boat trips, fishing, shark cage diving, helicopter rides, paragliding, buccaneer trips (very expensive!) etc.

I was in SA last summer, we stayed in a hostel called Long Street Backpackers, one of the best hostels ive ever been in! So much fun, and right in the middle of long street ( full of bars, clubs, restaraunts). We went shark diving out there, cost about $120 US and it was worth every penny. Sky diving costs around $140 (didnt have enough time to do it). Also you gotta do the wine tour, the best $40 i ever spent. Hope this helps, i miss cape town! Any questions, please feel free to bug me with your emails, ill enjoy answering.

If you are 8 people all in all, then I'd definitely recommend renting a villa in Camps Bay.
As it's June (low season), you will get some good deals for awesome properties in Camps Bay or even Clifton. Some of the villas there are absolutely stunning and if you split the rate amongst 8 people, it won't be too bad. It's a lot more fun to rent a whole house with friends than staying in 4 seperate rooms in a hotel.... Have a look at www.southafrica-stay.com, www.sa-venues.com or www.wheretostay.co.za You could also have a look at the V&A Waterfront, but I'd highly recommend Camps Bay...much more fun :)

Sunday: La Med (Camps Bay)
Monday: Zula Bar (Long Street) or Mercury (town) Tuesday: Tiger Tiger (Claremont) Wednesday: Hemishphere or Bang Bang (town) Thursday: Springboks (Newlands) Friday: Just chill... Or anywhere, really... Saturday: Assembly (town Loads to do in Cape Town -- if its not cloudy, Table Mountain, or you can climb Lion's Head. Go to Robben Island (tourists like it). Seal island. Definitely wine tasting. Its June -- South Africa plays Italy on 21 June, get tickets if you can... And that Long Street Backpackers is definitely worth it. P.S -- Internet is a bit dodgy here so dont expect WiFi or anything like that at a backpacker's :D
