| Manaus | Now thats a plan Posted: Tue January 29, 2008 01:23 PM UTC
Ola,
At last my dream trip to the Amazon is looking like a plan. Got tickets from UK to Sao Paulo, then Sao (gru) to Manaus.Booked in the Mango guest house for a week.Leaving enough time to orginize a trip up the Rio Nigro and then onto Rio Branco all the way to Boa vista. From there would like to get some more information : Can I go to either Venezuela or Guyana on the river? As we are basing our travel for a two year gap ( from work not school) and we have UK pport holders can only stay for 90 days in Brazil, and maybe get an extension... but either way would need to leave Brazil for a bit. Currently we have one way plane tickets only ( uk - Sao paulo, SP - Mao) and would like to leave Brazil by boat, if this is possible! Four weeks to go ! Any advice will be usefull :) Muito Obrigado Thanks Wil |

Wil,
I live in Manaus and go all the time to Boa Vista. You can go up the Negro River no problem via local transportation boats. But, going all the way to Boa Vista might be hard. You might be able to find a way to get to Caracarai which is where the highway BR 174 goes over the Branco River. It is 150 kms from there to Boa Vista. The Branco River is wide, but not too deep and upstream from there you won´t find any river trnasportation. You can go by road either to Venezuela or Guyana. I spend a lot of time in Boa Vista and it is a nice town. And, I love Manaus. That is why I live here. dk

Thank you for the info Dk.
I see what you mean about the highway at Caracarai, So best bet is to bus it from there to either Venezuela or Guyana. One other thing you might be able to clear up for me: Is the weather patterns ie) seasons. At the moment my understanding is that Winter is June till August and that summer is December to Febuary.?? Is this any where near correct? I am so looking foward to this trip, maybe we can meet up for a drink in Manaus, Agua de coco? Thanks again Wil
