| Jerusalem | In Jerusalem in the weekend Posted: Mon January 28, 2008 06:29 PM UTC
Hi :
I´m going to Jerusalem on saturday.I want to ask some questions : -What´s the weather now in Jerusalem ? -Is dangerous to visit the old city in the night ? -I´m in a hotel in Agripas, close Ben Yehuda, could you recommend any place, for example a good cafe for young people or other places of interest in this zone ? -What is the timetable to visit the dome of the rock ? Thank you a lot. Regards |

shalom Victor & welcome,
- Weather forecasts for tomorrow in Jerusalem are SNOWY. The municipality is prepared for 1-2 snowy days.[it happens once in 2- 3 years in Jerusalem. Generally it's not the European stable snow]. - It's NOT dangerous to visit the old city at night, but not many travelers do it. - nightlife in Jerusalem: try Yafo - Heleni Hamalka streets corner, and NAHALAT SHIVA'A. - timetable to visit Temple Mount is changing according to political situations. You have to ask a few days before. I have to find the phone numbers. Enjoy & Explore ! Avraham

Good morning Victor: To add my 2 cents
1. It will most likely be a cold February day in Jerusalem in the weekend. The snow will almost certainly be gone by then. 2. Some parts of the Old City are poor quarters and as such (with no political aspects...) might be not the safest place in town. I would not have enjoyed a walk in some of the dark alleys in night unless I had to pass there as a must. I would say that the main streets (ie: from the gates into the heart of the Old City) are safe. 3. If you refer to a visit in the Dome of the Rock itself, then you will be dissappointed to hear you cannot visit there unless you are muslim and come to pray (I am sure there are unusual visits, but generaly it is closed for touristic visits). Enjoy

The last time I asked it was possible to go up to the Dome of the Rock. Only, not on Fridays (unless you are a Muslim) and only in the morning. As far as I remember it was up to 10:00 am. Anyway, this was last year and things might have changed since then.
I don't know how really dangerous is the old city at night. But it's a little creepy and dark. Anyway, there is nothing to see there at night. You can walk around the Jewish quarter at all hours. But, the old city as a whole is best seen at day time when there are people in the streets and you can actually see where you are going...

I was in Jersusalem two weeks ago. Back then, non muslims were allowed to visit the Haram al sharif only between 12 and 1 pm. The only access was Morocco gate, which in my map was called Moors Gate. Apparently, this may change on a daily basis.

This is the gate which was always used by tourists to enter the compound. It is right next to the western wall. Then you can go out through the gate leading to the Muslim quarter.
