Whistler When to get married in Whistler in winter?
Posted: Mon January 28, 2008 12:14 PM UTC
We're planning on getting married outdoors (possibly at Edgewater Lodge) in 2009. Want to do it in the snowy season, so can combine skiing as a honeymoon.

Question is - when do you think would be a good month to do it? Ideally want it as bright and sunny as possible (don't much fancy a face full of blizzard when exchanging our vows!) and somewhen there's not too many crowds either. And cheap. And when the temperatures aren't arctic.

Am I asking the impossible?!?! Or is there a two week slot anywhere that might tick most or all of those boxes?

Thanks :o)

I think you'll want to study the climate normals of Whistler to really pinpoint a statistically good time for sun *and* snow *and* temperatures that don't go much below 0 Celsius.

http://www.climate.weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/climate_normals/results_e.html?Province=ALL&StationName=Whistler&SearchType=BeginsWith&LocateBy=Province&Proximity=25&ProximityFrom=City&StationNumber=&IDType=MSC&CityName=&ParkName=&LatitudeDegrees=&LatitudeMinutes=&LongitudeDegrees=&LongitudeMinutes=&NormalsClass=A&SelNormals=&StnId=348&&autofwd=1

Unfortunately, a lot of this will come down to luck as you can plan around a climate, but you can't really plan around weather. The weather is too unpredictable in the mountains to know when it'll be sunny, especially in the winter. Winter is when Whistler is its most cloudy/snowy.

I do know that December-February are the coldest months in Whistler when there will be snow in the village.

As you get into March and April, it becomes spring in the village so the snow in the village melts away and you get more sunshine.

Late March or early April is probably your best bet. There will still be a lot of snow on the upper parts of the mountain and the temp in the village will probably be fairly warm. The weather on any particular day is very unpredictable. Tha time of year it could be 20 deg celsius or near zero, and it might be clear and sunny or pouring rain.

The weather is never assured, but often we get clear skies at night when the moon is full. Your guests might howl a bit as well. Cold is the night when the moon shines bright!
