| Sydney | Hotels closest to Sydney Opera House and Harbour Posted: Mon January 28, 2008 06:23 AM UTC
Hi. We will be traveling to Sydney in Oct.08 and will be there for 2nights and 2 full days leaving early on the third day. We have been looking at the 4point Sheraton on Darling Harbor and the Metro on Watson Bay. We were wondering which one would be closest to Sydney Opera House and Harbour as we were thinking of doing either a tour of harbor and opera house or just opera house. Are either of these hotels within walking distance of the Opera House?? If we have to take a bus to get there what would be the cost?

The Four Point by Sheraton is not too far, an easy walk of maybe 15-20 minutes to the Harbour. We've stayed there a few times and it's a good hotel.

You should look for hotel at The Rocks, this right at Circular Quay and you have direct view to Opera House.
The Harbour Rocks Hotel would be an option. I stayed there some years ago and found it lovely: http://www.harbourrocks.com.au/index.html It takes you five minutes to walk to the ferries at Circular Quay and to Opera House not more than ten minutes. For the ferries etc. you can get a cheap Sydney Pass. The 7 day pass was just A$29 two years ago. You also get day passes for all means of transportation. Sissi

The Intercontinental is good as well. Its less than 5 minutes walk to Circular Quay and not much more than that to the Opera house. Even the cheapest rooms have a view to the harbour Bridge.

I stayed at the four points in 06 and it's great for both Darling HArbour and the Opera Houce/Circular Guay (10 mins walk). I get fed up with Hotels so last year I stayed at the Medina Apartments right next to the Aquarium on Darling Harbour - brilliant location and a whole lot more economical than the four points.

Darling Harbour is closest , only a few km to walk, Watsons Bay is too far away. Have a look at hotels in Geopge Street in the Rocks district, just near the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Circular Quay, the Opera House is very close.
Good Luck, Mike

I was there a little over a year ago on business and stayed at the Quay Grand Suites Sydney, which was terrific. It's located adjacent to the Botanical Gardens, and about 0.5 km pleasant walk to the Opera House. My one-bedroom suite had a balcony overlooking the ferries of Circular Quay. It had a full kitchen, TVs everywhere, large spa-bath and separate shower, washer-dryer, and just about everything you could wish for. The staff was excellent, and (picky me) couldn't find a single flaw. See reviews:
