Don't know what it is but if it's Spanish, try Smith St Collingwood.

Ham-mark. I've been trying to get my hands on this very special Spanish ham, also, and it is not yet imported into the US. Sorry, I can't help you about Melbourne, but I'd like to see if anyone carries it in Aus, as I'll be back there in June on a visit.

When i googled the question an outlet in melbourne was the first reference. I'd also try Movida restaurant.

pedroswift,
Yes I did but I only found kirkfood which requires a minimum 5kg purchase, that comes up to >$1000. I'm only after a few slices. Which outlet did you find?

Marianne2,
Yes, this deli in Sydney sells it! I can't remember the name but it's on the left hand side of Liverpool St when you walk towards Darling Harbour. They're selling pata negra for $320/kg

OK, and many thanks. I can picture about where that is in Sydney, but, hmmm, that doesn't quite meet my budget levels. It would be cheaper to fly back to Andalucia to indulge! This stuff is on the order of pig-snuffed-out truffles for bankrupting me. :-)

Is it worth ringing the importer (kirk)to see who buys it from them & has it for sale as a deli item? or checking with Spanish restaurants. regards, p.

There is a spanish deli called Casa Iberica on Johnson Str Fitzroy, next door to Hunts Gym. This place has fantastic spanish grocery items and if you cant get it there then you would be hard pressed to find it elsewhere.

Found this in a newspaper article. All the places listed, are in Melbourne. The Queen Victoria Market, is probably the easiest to find and a great place to shop! Hope it helps!
IBERICO Joselito Iberico de bellota Paleta Gran Reserva 40 months, $250/kg A vibrant pink paleta with a good acorn flavour but not as developed as the (hindleg) jamons. Jonathan's, Collingwood; Delicatess, Prahran; Bill's Farm, Queen Victoria Market; Di Censo, Doncaster; La Bergerie, Canterbury. Iberico Bellota Gran Reserva Best value 36 months, $245/kg Brilliant dark-coloured flesh with a great texture, sweet, well-balanced, good marbling and length of flavour. Ludo Good Food Store, Sandringham. Pedro Nieto Iberica de Bellota 27 months, $285/kg Pale, light-coloured flesh with a sweet, rich smell, slightly undersalted and slighty "odd" flavour. Peter Bouchier's Toorak; David Jones; Jonathan's, Collingwood. Joselito Iberico de bellota Gran Reserva 40 months, $320/kg Mild and nutty with marbled rosy flesh. The fat is sweet, rich and intense with a lovely whey-like flavour. Peter Bouchier's, Toorak; Delicatess, Prahran; Di Censo, Doncaster. Iberico Jamon Shoulder Great Reserve Redondo Iglesias 36 months, $350/kg Vibrant rosy colour and marbled, moist and tender flesh. Simon Johnson Stores; Delicatess, Prahran Market. Delasierra - organic Jamon iberico de bellota Most popular 29 months, $485/kg A jamon with a floral aroma, well-marbled flesh and super nutty, concentrated flavour. Peter Bouchier, Toorak; Delicatess, Prahran Market. Great Reserve Redondo Iglesias 36 months, $610/kg Dominated by incredibly intense and beautiful soft-pink fat that was sweet, salty and buttery. Simon Johnson Stores; Delicatess, Prahran Market.

Went searching for a web site for Casa Iberica, but they don't appear to have one - or its under a different name.
From the SBS (TV) web site: - for paella pans and gas rings are available here, groceries, Spanish wines, and jamon Casa Iberica, 25 Johnston Street, Fitzroy, Victoria tel: (03) 9419 4420 And yes it is yummy in there. My guess is that they don't have it, no one will.

>Great Reserve Redondo Iglesias
>36 months, $610/kg Not the sort of stuff you'd put in a ham and cheese sandwich and take to work. When in Madrid last year, we found the Museo del Jamon. I've just had a look at a couple of photos and Jamon Iberico was 56.00 Euro/kilo and Jamon Iberico Belloto Extra 90.00 Euro/kilo ($AUD147), so the above seems a lot dearer - must be the first class airfares to get it here.

Thanks a lot everyone! That was really helpful.
I think the high price is probably due to the quarantine cost.
