looking to take my wife to a nice restaurant for her birthday in luxor in March, any suggestions would like one with a view of the nile if possible. Thanks in advance.

Hi! You may take her for a nile cruise. There are a lot of tour operators offering the cruises and you can stay and dine in the ship wwhile cruising the river nile itself.

I have to admit we found it very difficult to find a nice Nile side restaurant in Luxor in August, my friend is a very strict vegetarian so we ended up eating in the Winter Palace Gardens hotel... very nice too. There are hundreds of restaurants down actually on the banks so I am positive you will only have to walk along the Nile and something will catch your eye.

Most of the Nile View "restaurants" in Luxor don't really deserve the name restaurant. As another respondent said .....something "joint", that is what they are! Apart from the good quality hotels and the (so called) "English" restaurants in the area opposite the Sonesta St George Hotel there isn't much to chose from. The Oasis (near the Hotel Mercure) is very very nice, but it isn't really a restaurant, more of a coffee shop/bistro. A real resaurant choice might well be Sofra. It's well into town at Manshiea, and does very good, mainly Egyptian, food in a lovely surrounding of Egyptian antiques. They arranged a surprise birthday meal (with cake, candles etc.) for some recent guests of ours, very well done too!
