Hello Stuart
Mactan Island is not a tourist island like Boracay. It is a place of factories, industry and the airport. It just happens to have a few isolated resorts on the best bits. If you are not wanting to stay in the expensive resorts, there is no need to stay on Mactan Island at all. In my opinion, all the best daytime activities and nightlfe is in Cebu City so that is where I suggest that you stay. If you want really cheap, about 6 or 7 pounds per night, consider staying where I do, at the Cebu Century Hotel. You can read about it here: http://bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com/blog/?p=15 Staying there may help your bugdet so much, you may be able to afford to stay another week or 2! Otherwise, here are a couple of reasonably priced places to stay which have swimming pools: http://www.mangoparkhotel.com/ http://www.in-cebu.com/metropark/ For things to do, read this: http://bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com/blog/?p=16 For places to see, read this: http://www.bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com/cebu_tour.htm These are my favourite places to relax in the daytime: http://www.sandtrap.biz/ It has a swimming pool, outdoor but under cover restaurant, 3 tennis courts, billiard table and dart board http://www.badgerspub.net/ A place to meet up with expats from your country and get the low down on what else to do in Cebu City. It has 2 billiard tables and 2 dart boards. Let me know what other questions you have by writing to me at sibbick61@yahoo.com.au Regards: Jim
