Ljubljana Ljubljana by car?
Posted: Sun January 27, 2008 02:46 AM UTC
Hi

I was going to have a car and do a loop from Munich down to Ljubljana and Bled but I'm wondering about driving into Ljubljana with the car and to where I might park it overnight If I were to use a hostel. I have driven in europe before but mostly in smaller places not in cities. I did manage to navigate Zurich and Bern! what do you guys think?

thanks Brent

Can't tell you much about parking, but can tell you that Slovenia ia the one country I've visted in which I would feel more than happy to drive (on the 'wrong side', for me), in Ljubljana too. There are on-the-spot fines for driving too close, so people generally don't, and I was very impressed by driving behaviour both in the city and on the motorways.

Ljubljana is a tiny city, so if you managed Zurich and Bern you'll have no problems whatsoever with navigation. There is plenty of on-street parking outside the immediate centre, and you may well find your hostel has some available anyway (ask when you book).

Specific parking info here: http://www.ljubljana.info/parking/

and here: http://www.jh-lj.si/index.php?p=8&k=1628&l=2 (lists all municipal parking centres & prices/hours).

Hey. Ljubljana has plenty of parking spots although they can be crowded most of the day but I am sure near you hostel u will find a decent parking place for your car, u just need to look for it.

If you will park your car in Ljubljana the city from 6pm to 8am there will be no problem what so ever. But beyond that hours, so during the day, on specially marked places, so called white zone, you need to pay for parking spot. It is not very expencive (1,5 hour one euro coin) so i advise you to pay cose punishment is surley something you are not happy to get. Parking on blue zones is not advisable during the day cose on those places you are able to park just half an hour for free. And yellow zones are not used for ordinary people but for guverment.

Enjoy Ljubljana and try to discover more than just Bled in Slovenia. :)
