| Sousse | Some friendly advice required.... Posted: Sat January 26, 2008 09:06 PM UTC
Hi all, I'm taking my girlfriend to the Vincci El Kantaoui hotel in Port Kantaoui. We're only going for 1 week and realy just looking to relax. I am wondering if anyone has any advice on this hotel or even just the resort. Thing like advise on exchanging money and places to go or even just a general oppinion on the place would be helpful. Also if anyone has been here in May i would like to know how i can expect the weather to be.
Any advice would be welcome and much appreciated.. Thank you.. |

I haven't seen the El Kantaoui, but the Vincci Zarzis was beautiful and had great service. You can exchange your money at the hotel, or try another hotel to see the fee charge.
Sousse is about 5 miles away, you can take a taxi there. There are many things to do in sousse: http://www.hedficonsultingpartners.com/Visit_Tunis Weather in Sousse in May is actually the best time for spending on the beach since the sun isn't too hot. Temperature is high of 28C (85F) and low 11C (52F). Have fun!

Vincci is a really nice hotel. But don't don't be surprised if you don't get the same standard of service and cleanliness as you would get in the same rate hotel in e.g. Finland. The hotel is very close to Port el Kantaoui where numerous bars, cafes, restaurants and shops can be found. For and older view of Sousse go to the Madinat (old walled city in Arab countries) in the center of Sousse. (The courtyard of the Mosque is open in the mornings to the visitors.) And there is a really nice cafe on the top called El Kasbah with views over the whole city. As it's mostly sunny in May, sit on the top floor and enjoy a cup of mint tea or freshly squeezed orange juice. Restaurants that we enjoyed when we were there (and we did work and live there for 7 Months) are: Saloon (there is also a club/ bar in the basement- Gold Rush)- looks like something out of Wild West but the food was really good; Three dolphins, Totem (a bit out of the tourist area; no alcohol). As for clubs- I wouldn't recommend Metallica which is near your hotel but Maracana is fine, also there is a pub across from there which is frequented by tourists mostly but it's big and had a nice selection of beers (can't recall the name of it). The music is mainly mainstream (MTV) with some popular tunes from the Arab world. As for drinks I do recommend Tunisian wines, even in restaurants a bottle would be on average 10-15 Euros. All imported alcohol is expensive so if you prefer spirits buy a bottle in Duty Free before you arrive. Getting around Sousse is easily done by taxi but do ask for a taximeter as they know you're a tourist and bargaining for a price is a tedious business. If you like traveling on your own rather than on bus tours, there is a main train station in the center and trains go to different parts of Tunisia, also to Tunis (capital) and Hammmamet. Trains are cheap and do go on time. If you have any more questions- just ask.

You'll never be disappointed in a Vinci hotel, the one in El Kantaui is very nice with fiendly service.
If this is your first visit to Tunisia don't miss: Tunis capital (El Bardo Museum, Cartago ruins and Sidi Bou Said village), Sousse, Keruan and Nebuel friday morning market.
