Lisbon What to do in Lisbon for 1 day?
Posted: Sat January 26, 2008 10:37 AM UTC
Hi all! We are a big group of 15 persons going Lisbon this summer. We only have 1 full day in Lisbon. I was hoping for any advice or tips to what to do, see and eat in this city. What are the good restaurants to try really good local cuisine(8 to 12 Euros) in the central part of Lisbon? Can anyone suggest a good 2 to 3 star hotel in the center? What is the best area to be located in at Lisbon (for walking, restaurants and shops)?

Many thanks!

Have a look at the VT Lisbon Travel Guide for tips on things to do and restaurants.

If I had just one day in Lisbon, I'd start out by going to the castle - fantastic views, beautiful spot, and you can walk down the hill through Alfama district which is fascinating. One of my favourite restaurants in Lisbon is just outside the castle itself, a Goan place called Arco do Castelo. For a lighter lunch, there are plenty of snack bars around.

If you manage to do that in the morning, you could visit Belem in the afternoon. Belem has a number of attractions - its famous tower, the Monument to the Discoveries and the Monastery of Jeronimos. You could either eat in Belem or head back to the centre.

There are plenty of other things to see and do in the city, but these are the big sights, and some of the most appealing (I don't always think those two things are the same).

Definitely have a look at the VT tips for food - there are lots of places offering a tourist menu with classic Portuguese dishes that look similar, but quality varies widely. Wherever you end up, try a bacalhau dish and the superb Portuguese take on chocolate mousse.

lunch at bomjardim right near restauradoes, near the city center is very cheap and good---lunch for two with a glass of wine is 15 euros. shopping all around the praca restaurdores has clothing and souvenier shops. I'd take at tram to belen, so you can see arguably portugal's most famous landmark, the torre de belem. the tram/bus ride is like 20 minutes. the hotel vip eden, also near restauradores was about 84 euros for a double room with a shower. this was all last month that i did this.
