| Darwin | Going to Darwin: Feb 5- Feb 11 Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 02:48 PM UTC
So, i just bought a ticket on impulse to darwin. And I have no idea around the place and can't drive for nuts.
I'd love to lie by the beach, walk around the city, meet some people, drink, party and such:) (Not so much into the adventure sports, though I wouldn't mind with some help). Any ideas on how I could go about doing this? |

And I would be staying at the frogshollow lodge? Anyone going around the sametime, maybe I will have a partner in crime.

Hi there,
Frog Hollow has a great name up there. I haven't heard a bad report. You won't find it too hard finding a party or two. There are heaps of backpacker places mainly in one street of Darwin,( can't think of the name) and here there are pubs etc. If necessary you can do the Darwin tourist spots in a day. The city is small, so you can also do the shops quickly. The beaches won't be that exciting at this time of year, can't swim in them for stingers. Seeing as you are in Darwin and Kakadu/Leitchfield are the main attractions, I would find a 2 night 3 days ( or something like that) backpacker tour to do. It really is worth it. This way you can meet new people and have a few beers along the way:)Plus see some amazing scenery. If you don't want to do both, Leitchfield is fun as it has great waterfalls and swimming holes.Very pretty, even if it is raining. They will also be some day trips to do, check these out as well. Don't pack much, it will be bloody hot, you will only need light clothes. Have a great time.

Ah, thanks Anne. Would you suggest taking a domestic flight from Darwin to Perth or some other place if am there only for 4 days, or do you think that would be stretching it?

I think you are pushing it:) If you arrive on the 5th and are leaving on the 11th.
The first time I did Darwin, I stayed in the city for one day. Then I jumped on a Billy Can tour from Darwin. This was a 3 night 4 day one. It was a small coach, about 15 passengers. We did Kakadu, Leitchfield and Katherine Gorge. It was great as I saw heaps and a great intro to this area. If I were you I would do this and forget seeing another part of Aus this time. Check out this site http://www.topendescapes.com.au/ check out the day tours, they cover all areas....prices look good as well. also the Top End Wanderer one...this is the type of one I would suggest..read the itinerary, this will give you an idea what there is to see. All great.
