Mates are staying there and its currently boked out for Feb 6. There is a spot available on the 10th. Appreciate anyone who is familliar with the area who could give me a hostel close by. thanks.

It is still more or less Carnaval time on those dates, so you may have trouble with availability.
The alley that your frind's hostel is on, at #175 Rua Barao de Torre, has a bunch more, all side by side.
