Gloucester Getting to Gloucester and Oxford from London
Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 03:37 AM UTC
Hi. I'll be arriving in London on 29 April 2007 but I'd also like to see Gloucester and Oxford. I have time from 2 May - 6 May before I have to be in London again to fly to Frankfurt on 7 May.

Would really appreciate anyone's help in answering the following questions:

(1) What is the cheapest way to get to and from Oxford and Gloucester; and how much do I have to pay?
(2) How much time will I need to see Oxford and Gloucester?
(3) Trains and buses, how much travelling time will they need?

Thanks and regards,
AV

I'm no expert on this part of the world but....

(1) What is the cheapest way to get to and from Oxford and Gloucester; and how much do I have to pay?
Bus is probably the cheapest at around £15 return, Train is around £25 but you can get cheaper on both if you look around and/or book in advance.

(2) How much time will I need to see Oxford and Gloucester?
This depends, it might be an idea to decide what you want to do and see before you go, Oxford is quite compact and you can walk around the main ‘attractions’ in a day. The Oxford Story is a tourist trap which I quite like, you ride around sat at a desk and get the history of the place, its good if it’s raining.

(3) Trains and buses, how much travelling time will they need?
To Oxford the bus can be as quicker and easier than the train (on a good day) it takes about an hour and a half, there are loads of buses ferrying students back and forward more or less round the clock.

London to Gloucester by train takes around 2 hours, Bus takes maybe 3 hours.

Trains go from Paddington, buses from Victoria Coach Station.

I hope this helps, I'm working from memory on Oxford and I hardly know Gloucester other than the big church.

Regards

Mark
